New Wave

10 MAY 2024
The song ‘New Wave’ written during the COVID pandemic has been uploaded on SoundCloud and Bandcamp. Singing how beautiful the world is, and how important it is to be ourselves, I wanted this piece to be a healing experience.

“When the sky turns into blue, orange and red-. When the colour is added to the scent of wind-. When the story comes out from the grey soil-. It’s time to go back from the beginning, the roots.”

Bottled Universe

17 MAY 2024

Spoken word music track released in band camp and sound cloud.

“The beads enjoyed freedom that was not oppressed by anyone's power. I saw something. And that might be me. The tear that I've longed to shed. Dreams are getting harder to tell. The smell of smoke filled the unventilated room, like a spicy scent, making my mind short of breath several times.”

Invisible forms

17 MAY 2024

Invisible Form is a piece that explores the essence and limitations of language. Recognising the constraints of traditional linguistic sign systems—words and grammatical rules—it seeks new modes of expression beyond these boundaries. By reconstituting language through an auditory lens, this work deconstructs the conventional function of language, attempting a novel form of communication.

I composed and recorded two poems, initially preserving their linguistic meaning and structure. However, the poems lose their original linguistic function once recorded and edited into audio files. They no longer serve as vehicles for words and grammar but exist purely as sound. This transformation offers the listener an auditory experience instead of linguistic comprehension.

This work proposes a profound reflection on the boundaries between language and sound. Language ceases to be merely a medium for conveying meaning and transforms into a vessel for new forms of auditory messages. <Invisible Form> recognises the limitations of language while simultaneously exploring its potential.

Barbican Silent Film;
Bed and Sofa

9 JUNE 2024 15.00 Barbican Centre, Cinema 1

The Soviet silent film Bed and Sofa (original title: Tret'ya Meshchanskaya) will be screened this Sunday at Barbican Centre Cinema 1. This screening will include a live solo piano performance, and I wrote some scores for this event.

Directed by Abram Room and released in 1927, this film provides a realistic and detailed depiction of everyday life and social change in post-revolutionary Soviet society, evoking a significant response. Through the relationships of its characters, the film explores new social and sexual norms following the revolution, posing questions that remain relevant in contemporary society.

Graphic score for Bauhaus

10 June 2024
This graphic score aims to understand how humans perceive, feel, and express colours and shapes. By allowing performers to play different sections of the same piece while influencing each other’s emotional sections, the work captures and sonifies these interactions. This approach expands Kandinsky‘s colour theory and Bauhaus’s research on shape-colour-emotion relationships through musical experimentation.

The use of an algorithm in this work ensures that performers follow predetermined rules, guiding the composition and interaction. This structure provides a framework for the progression and emotional expression, allowing performers to exercise autonomy and creativity. Within this framework, performers generate diverse musical experiences through individual interpretations and emotional expressions.

Instruments performed by Thomas Sladden (Piano), Natan KM (Drums) and Alex Allen (Bass), were recorded with Harry Hamilton.

FOWL NIRVANA

30 August 2024
Composition by Yeonjoon Yoon, Eleanor Lee.

“I try not to look.
So, I don’t have any ideas.
It’s just that my eyes are open.
Because my eyes aren’t focused on only one place.
I only felt the remains of a bird that had taken
Wing towards a dark place.”

IS IT BECAUSE YOU’RE NOT HONEST THAT YOU CAN’T THROW UP?

04 October 2024
Is it because you’re not honest that you can’t throw up? If you drag it all out, it’ll seem filthy, disgusting, won’t it? Everything laid bare, a daring scream, a range of expressions. What are we hiding from? Wrapped up in layers like packaging.Category
