KÓSMOS: Electric Earth Orchestra x Nibera (Live Album + Visuals Preview)
9 JUL 2025 | Slik Street Music Hall, London

Tickets  Description (KR)

The Electric Earth Orchestra returns with a visionary new project, KÓSMOS, a deep exploration of sound, space, and the role of humanity in the vast expanse of the universe. Blending orchestral resonance with analogue electronics and ambient sound design, EEO presents a multidimensional performance framed by live visual art from acclaimed digital artist Nibera.

KÓSMOS, echoes from the universe and human mind, is a contemplative exploration of humanity’s place in the cosmos, a sonic meditation inviting listeners to connect with the unheard universe surrounding us. Electric Earth Orchestra (EEO) is a boundary-pushing collective bridging the worlds of live instruments and technology to create deeply immersive concert experiences. EEO blends orchestral, electronic, and plant-synthesised sounds into a contemporary sonic celebration of the planet. Organic instruments merge with analogue synths and custom-built sonification systems that convert the bioelectrical activity of real plants into live music.

Through bespoke interfaces and the custom virtual instrument Electric Fauna, plants become integral members of the electronic section, shaping ambient layers, pulses, and textures in real time. The result is a living, breathing soundscape revealing nature’s hidden voices.

Eleanor composed and produced the Piece ‘An Ki Abzu’ for the Electric Earth Orchestra, with an improvisation-based Clarinet Solo performed by Gustavo Clayton Barrionuevo Marucci.

An Ki Abzu
The piece “An Ki Abzu” draws inspiration from Pythagoras’s Kósmos, embarking on a sonic journey to explore humanity’s role and purpose within the universe. The term Kósmos originates from the ancient Greek, meaning ‘order’ or ‘arrangement’, a concept Pythagoras connected to the fundamental nature of the universe. To understand the relationship between the cosmos, humanity, and the order within, we must first reflect upon ourselves and the universe around us. Intriguingly, our brain and its intricate neural networks bear a striking resemblance to the structure of the universe, providing a key to exploring human experience in the context of cosmic order.
The ancient Sumerians conceptualised the cosmos in three distinct realms: Heaven (An), Earth (Ki), and Abyss (Abzu). These were not merely physical spaces but symbolic representations of the universe’s essence and order. Fascinatingly, this tripartite framework mirrors the layers defined in modern neuroscience: consciousness, subconsciousness, and unconsciousness. Heaven (An) represents conscious thought and transcendent awareness, Earth (Ki) embodies the sensory experience and interaction with the material world, and the Abyss (Abzu) signifies the depths of the unconscious, the source of creativity and primal instincts. This parallel underscores the profound structural similarity between the human brain and the cosmos. In modern neuroscience, the concept of neural coding describes the brain’s process of interpreting and processing external stimuli through its own ‘language’ of electrical signals. Light, sound, and sensory inputs are converted into these signals, forming the foundation upon which the brain understands the world. Comprising approximately 86 billion neurons, the brain operates through a complex and dynamic network of connections, exchanging information in ways that evoke the interconnectedness of stars and galaxies within the universe. Like constellations in the night sky, these neural pathways form intricate, highly organised patterns that sustain our perception and cognition.

This composition attempts to translate the structure and function of these neural networks into sound. The electronic elements within the track exist as individual clusters of tones, yet they interact dynamically to create independent spaces and order. These sounds coalesce into a network that mirrors the movement of neurons, each representing humans, stars, planets, and energy, collectively forming a microcosmic universe. Through this, the track invites listeners to experience the parallels between the workings of the human brain and the patterns of the cosmos, engaging both scientifically and emotionally with these intertwined systems. The Sumerian cosmology described the emergence of the Cosmos (order) from Chaos, a narrative that resonates with the fundamental processes of neural activity as understood today. The Abyss (Abzu), as the primordial source of creation, evokes the unconscious mind’s role as the wellspring of inspiration and innovation. It is within the unconscious that creative thought and profound insight are born, a process intrinsically tied to the origins of the cosmos itself. This interplay between conscious and unconscious realms reflects the continuous dialogue between reality and imagination, where both are shaped and reshaped.

“An Ki Abzu” aims to build a symbolic bridge between humanity and the universe. Our brain serves as both a microcosm of the cosmos and a tool for probing its truths, offering a lens through which we can examine our place and purpose. Through sound, this track invites reflection on consciousness, neural activity, and ancient cosmologies, encouraging us to reimagine our existence within the vast expanse of the universe. As our brain seeks to comprehend the cosmos, the cosmos, in turn, reflects the intricacies of our mind, an endless cycle of discovery and connection, compelling us to ponder humanity’s enduring role within the grand design of existence.
