Resonance FM: Ariadne’s Thread
My piece Ariadne’s Thread will be broadcast on Resonance FM and Resonance Extra at 16:45 BST on Tuesday, 5 August 2025, as part of Rewind 2025, a special programme curated by Radiophrenia (Glasgow, Scotland). The Rewind series revisits selected works from earlier this year’s Radiophrenia broadcast through a week-long schedule of radio art.
Resonance FM is a London-based non-profit radio station dedicated to contemporary sound practices, including experimental music, sound art, and radio-based work. Programmes are produced and curated by a community of artists and cultural practitioners, with core support provided by Arts Council England. Positioned as a platform for artistic experimentation through radio, the station plays an active role in the development and dissemination of sound-based practices in the UK and internationally.
Ariadne’s Thread
Transpierce the mountains instead of scaling them, excavate the land instead of striating it, bore holes in space instead of keeping it smooth, and turn the earth into Swiss cheese. An image from the film Strike [by Eisenstein] presents a holey space where a distributing group of people are rising, each emerging from his or her hole as if from a field in all directions. (Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, A Thousand Plateaus)
The piece 'Ariadne’s Thread' was made with a sampler instrument, to capture the interplay between various physical objects (i): piano, singing bowls, and wine glasses, and the physical forces or events (ii): keys being pressed, bowls resonating, and glasses filled with water and made to resonate by fingers. I documented and analysed each event’s significance and playback by examining the interactions between i and ii and the resulting evidence of an unseen new world.
